Founded in 2004, CycloTech is transforming the Voith Schneider propeller (VSP) into a revolutionary and superior propulsion system (Cyclogyro rotor) for the aviation industry.

Our vision is to combine the benefits of rotary and fixed-wing concepts by bringing together vertical take off and landing, fast and efficient forward flight, and extremely high maneuverability.

PATENTED TECHNOLOGY

CycloTech’s patented technology is currently the only Cyclogyro rotor concept in the world delivering high rotation speed, sufficient thrust, and efficient energy consumption for a truly competitive alternative system of aircraft propulsion.

Over the last three years, a comprehensive 2D and 3D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model has been optimized and validated based on the results of hundreds of performance tests on our in-house test bench, flow visualisation experiments using Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), and wind tunnel tests.

TEAM

CycloTech’s team of 15 international engineers is undertaking intense research, development, and testing. Our team has accumulated the most comprehensive body of knowledge in Cyclogyro technology. We are employing engineers within the fields of aerodynamics, design and construction, control and programming, and assembly and testing.

We have an experienced management team of three members responsible for the technical and organizational development of the company.

KLEMENS

HEAD OF AIRCRAFT DEVELOPEMENT

Klemens heads the development of Cyclogyro applications and the integration of the propulsion system in different types of aircraft. He is responsible for the configuration, design concept, and production of the flight demonstrator.

HEAD OF ROTOR DEVELOPMENT

Lukas leads research and development of the core technology of the company, and is responsible for the optimization of the Cyclogyro rotor in terms of both performance and durability.

AERODYNAMICS ENGINEER

Anouk leads aerodynamic research, conducts PIV experiments at CycloTech’s facilities, and optimizes the airflow through the cyclogyro rotor using CFD simulations.

FRANZ

PROTOTYPE ENGINEER

Franz is responsible for all electronic configurations, approvals, and safety testing of the test equipment and the flight demonstrator.

DRIVETRAIN DEVELOPER

As a mechatronic engineer, Michaela is responsible for the configuration of the drivetrain and the development of the rotor control system (RCS), and the flight control system (FCS).

PATRICK

PROTOTYPE ENGINEER

Patrick is responsible for the assembly and testing of the Cyclogyro rotor units and their components. He creates test bench constructions and mobile testing equipment and performs wind tunnel tests.

RAFAEL

AERODYNAMICS ENGINEER

Rafael is responsible for the selection of wind tunnel facilities, the organization and planning of test series, and post-processing of test data, as well as defining the requirements for fast forward flight.

JOSEF

DESIGN ENGINEER

Josef designs the CAD-based structural parts of the flight demonstrator and suspension system, and and prepares and performs stress analyses of the required components.

ANAND

AERODYNAMICS ENGINEER

Anand performs aerodynamic research, develops CFD models for optimization of the performance of Cyclogyro rotors, does flight performance enhancement research, and carries out parameter studies.

DAVIDE

CONTROL SYSTEM PROGRAMMER

Davide is an embedded systems programmer, responsible for the system architecture of the rotor control system, and its pre-testing and optimizing through HiL (Hardware in the Loop).

CycloTech decided to concentrate on its core competence – the development of the Cyclogyro rotors. We benefit from the experience of specialists rather than spending our time and capacity in building up engineering or manufacturing experience that our partners already possess. Thus we cooperate with top experts for long-term development partnerships.

The University of Glasgow was founded in 1451. It offers a diverse range of taught undergraduate and postgraduate programs, and carries out world-changing research in arts, social science, science, engineering, medicine, veterinary medicine and life sciences.

Wind tunnel testing for this project is being carried out in the deHavilland wind tunnel of the Aerospace Science Research Division of the James Watt School of Engineering. This wind tunnel is part of the UK National Wind Tunnel Facility, a network of world-class research and testing wind tunnels based in UK universities.

The Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) is the national funding agency for industrial research and development in Austria. Research, development and innovation are central drivers for economic, technological and social development. The FFG supports innovation and exploration of new market opportunities by putting new knowledge to work in Austria.

CycloTech GmbH’s current project phase is supported by grants from the FFG General Programs initiative that fosters the further development and technological readiness of the Cyclogyro propulsion system.

TFM – Technologie für Metallbearbeitung GmbH is a tool-making company with broad experience in complex metal processing. The company produces not only complete molds and dies for plastic injection molding, blow molding or metal die-casting metal, but can also produce custom prototypes and pilot production tools.

TFM also offers its deep metal processing know-how in the form of contract manufacturing orders.

INTALES GmbH Engineering Solutions was founded in 2004 in Innsbruck, Austria by highly experienced engineers from the Austrian and German aerospace industry working together with the University of Innsbruck. As a service provider INTALES offers a full range of structure analyses for the aerospace industry.

In cooperation with the University of Innsbruck and other European research institutes, INTALES develops advanced strategies, methodologies and software tools for the use of its international customers.

The ANSYS Startup Program provides entrepreneurs access to a broad range of ANSYS simulation software, bundled and priced to help them grow their business while stretching their funding further.

CycloTech currently uses ICEMCFD within the optimization toolchain and has already been able to significantly raise the mesh quality and accuracy of the results with reduced calculation times and incurred costs.
